Marysville Police respond to gun threat on high school campus

MARYSVILLE — Shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, a Marysville Police School Resource Officer was alerted by campus security, who had received information that a student on a school bus was in possession of a handgun and had made threats to shoot students.

MARYSVILLE — Shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, a Marysville Police School Resource Officer was alerted by campus security, who had received information that a student on a school bus was in possession of a handgun and had made threats to shoot students.

Officers were able to stop the school bus the student was reported to be on, just prior to it entering the campus driveway of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, but they quickly learned the student had already been dropped off at Mountain View High School.

Officers responded to the MVHS campus and took a 15-year-old male student into custody without incident, while also taking into their possession what turned out to be a cap gun that looked very much like a real revolver handgun.

M-PHS was in brief lockdown when officers initially boarded the school bus, but the lockdown was lifted shortly after learning the student was not on the M-PHS campus.

The school resource officer is continuing to investigate these events, while the student will be booked at the Denny Juvenile Justice Center for felony harassment.

Marysville School District officials added that the student has been expelled from MVHS, and they credited the police department, school district security and staff with responding quickly and efficiently to ensure the safety of all students.
