MARYSVILLE – For the second time, Marysville-Pilhuck High School football standout Austin Joyner has committed to the University of Washington.

Joyner previously committed to Washington State University but backed out after defensive coordinator Mike Breske was fired Nov. 30. A year earlier, Joyner had made a commitment to the Huskies, but he changed his mind after Steve Sarkisian left for Southern Cal.

Joyner made his announcement during the Semper Fidelis All-American game Jan. 4. Boise State and Oregon also were among his finalists.

Joyner has said he would prefer to place cornerback in college. But in high school he was a standout running back. He ran for 1,768 yards on 133 attempts (13.3 yards per carry) and 32 touchdowns in leading the Tomahawks to the Class 3A state semifinals.
