MARYSVILLE – A Christmas tree reportedly caught fire, causing $193,000 damage to a home in the 6800 block of 69th Place NE.

MARYSVILLE – A Christmas tree reportedly caught fire, causing $193,000 damage to a home in the 6800 block of 69th Place NE.

The residents self evacuated, but two pets were treated for smoke exposure. Firefighters used special pet oxygen masks to provide oxygen, and the cats responded well to the treatment. They were transported to a local veterinary hospital for more treatment.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The call came in at 10:27 Monday morning. Firefighters arrived six minutes later and located a fire in a single-story residential building.

Flames and smoke were visible from the front of the structure. The fire was under control within five minutes, confined to the living room. At the height of the incident more than 22 firefighters battled the blaze, with mutual aid provided by Snohomish County Fire District 22 Getchell.

The fire was investigated by the Marysville Fire District and determined to be accidental.

The Marysville Fire District asks residents to make sure that all Christmas decorations are in good working order. Also, check your smoke alarms regularly and practice your emergency plan. Never re-enter your home after you evacuate.
