With eight and nine wins respectively, the Marysville boys and girls track team took the largest number of victories in a three-team April 3 meet at Stanwood, but ultimately fell in the team standings to a deeper Stanwood team.

Multiple Tomahawks won multiple events. Sophomore Cali Cull took the long jump with a mark of 15-10 3/4 and the triple jump with a leap of 34-4 1/4 on top of running the second leg of a winning 4×100-meter relay. Junior Ryan Lanphere did it for the boys in distance events, winning the mile with a 4:38.39 time and the two mile a little later on in 10:35.04.

Counting relay wins, girls sprinters Nicolette Runyan and Alisha Oden also were multiple winners, joining their legs in the 400 relay to winning 100 and 200 performances respectively. The trio of relayists were rounded out by freshman Dacia Heckendorf in the relay that finished in 51.78.

Senior pole vaulter Michaela Caldwell tied her school record mark of 10-9 to win the girls pole vault at Stanwood. She was joined in field dominance by senior Jade Hanson, who won the high jump with a best mark of 4-10. Junior Jenna Welsh won the javelin, throwing a best mark of 113-6.

The javelin gold went to the Marysville boys as well, as senior Blake Lovell continued hitting marks in the 150-foot range; at Stanwood, his winning throw was 153-2. Nick Soriano won the triple jump, hitting 38-8.

Though junior Andy Abadam is the only holdover from last year’s state 400 relay squad, the younger one of Abadam, Mark Pangilinan, Travis Sanderson and Jacob Cartas racked up another win with a 44.36 time.

Marysville’s Katie Hughes won the girls mile in a time of 5:45.43, and Josh Rasmussen took the boys 800. A Tomahawk also won the boys 100 and 200.

The Stanwood boys won the meet with 78 points to M-P’s 71 and Mariner’s 33. The girls also took second with 78 points to Stanwood’s 94 and Mariner’s 17.
