Letter carriers set annual food drive for May 9
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Community Food Bank has raised “40,000 in food pounds and dollars” through the Feinstein Campaign, according to MCFB Director Joyce Zeigen, but donors have another opportunity to support those in need.
May 9 is the annual letter carriers’ food drive, during which Marysville residents who leave donations by their mailbox will be giving directly to the Marysville Community Food Bank. Dozens of food bank volunteers at the Marysville Post Office, the Smokey Point annex and the Food Bank will weigh, count and deliver the donations to the Food Bank, to be distributed to its clients over the next two to three months.
Zeigen also encouraged community members to support the Food Bank by planting a “Giving Garden” this year.
“Plant an extra row for the hungry and give your extra fresh produce to the food bank,” said Zeigen, who added that the Food Bank has vegetable seeds available to anyone who wants to make their garden a “Giving Garden.” “The food and monetary donations will go directly toward feeding the hungry. If anyone missed the Feinstein Campaign, they can still give to the Food Bank year round.”
The Marysville Community Food Bank is located at 4150 88th St. NE and can be reached by phone at 360-658-1054.
