SMOKEY POINT — The Marysville Kiwanis Club’s Bingo Run pancake breakfast at Sound Harley-Davidson Aug. 7 raised an estimated $200 for the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Special Olympics funds, but local Kiwanians want their community to know that they’ve got plenty more events coming up that could use more volunteers.

According to Marysville Kiwanis Club Treasurer Mike Ferri, the Kiwanians served 97 breakfasts that morning, which he acknowledged was “relatively small,” but he touted its importance nonetheless.

“The primary goal of Kiwanis is to help children, and supporting Special Olympics fits right in with our goal,” Ferri said. “Many of our members have children who have special needs and do participate in Special Olympics.”

The Marysville Kiwanis Club’s schedule remains full through the end of summer and the start of fall, with their District Conference coming up Aug. 21 on Camano Island at the home of District Lt. Gov. Tom Pfeiffer, followed by the Oyster Run pancake breakfast provided by the Marysville Kiwanis and Soroptimist Clubs Sept. 26 at 7 a.m. at Sound Harley.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast costs $7 cash and includes coffee, juice, scrambled eggs, regular and blueberry pancakes, sausage and hash-browns. Proceeds will benefit children’s charities in the area.

In the meantime, Marysville Kiwanians will also be providing food for this year’s “Touch a Truck” at Totem Middle School Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We always welcome more members to help us out with these events,” Marysville Kiwanis Club President Elaine Ferri said.

The Marysville Kiwanis Club meets every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Village Restaurant, located at 220 Ash Ave. in Marysville.
