SNOHOMISH An award-winning black-and-white infrared photographer of Marysville, Susie Howells work is part of this months show at the Arts of Snohomish Gallery, Paintography Clicking on the Right Side of the Brain.
A commercial wedding and portrait photographer by day, Howell also creates strikingly powerful landscapes that resemble paintings in look and feel.
After studying photography at Everett Community College, Howell took a deep breath in 2005 and entered the world of digital imaging.
The show also includes art photography by Dennis Bishop, of Bishop & Associates Photography in Snohomish, Starla Grove and Terry Preshaw with photographs ranging from traditional landscapes to colorful abstracts.
A full-time professional photographer who does portraiture and weddings, Bishop likes to focus on the artistic side of photography and enjoys the thrill of capturing light.
For Starla Grove, also of Snohomish, photography is not solely about capturing the world as we see it through our naked eyes,but it is about looking more intensely at the world and then allowing the imagination and the subconscious to lead her toward new possibilities. She allows much of her imagery to border the line of abstraction and concentrates on the use of a brilliant color pallet to form a unique and imaginative body of work.
Terry Preshaw, of Everett, is a lawyer and a photojournalist who enjoys taking a break from photorealism by indulging her passion for vibrant images from her personal alternative reality.
Almost every image has artistic potential, Preshaw said. The challenge is to go beyond the obvious and visually embrace the hidden surprises.

The Arts of Snohomish Gallery is a fine arts association owned and operated by participating artists.
The gallery is located in the Carnegie Building at the east end of First Street on the corner of Cedar Avenue in downtown historic Snohomish, at 105 Cedar Ave. Parking and admission are free. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon – 5 p.m. Sundays.
