Read Kellogg Marsh read.
Plant that seed.
Snuggle up with your pup.
And read to succeed.
MARYSVILLE – Kellogg Marsh Elementary School hosted its annual Snuggle Up and Read event at the school March 8.
Dozens of students and their parents attended. Community volunteers read to the students in various rooms. Many wore pajamas and brought blankets, sleeping bags, pillows and/or stuffed animals in honor of the snuggle up theme.
The event honors the birthday of famous children’s book author Dr. Seuss.
In the gym, participants ate dessert of cookies and milk. They also had the opportunity to take home free books.
Mike Waite, a retired Navy officer, was one of the volunteer readers. He has a lot of experience reading to kids. “I read to my kids all the time,” he said, adding they are grown now.
Popular custodian Steve Kelly, like Waite, had read at the event before. “I usually bring my motorcycle into the room,” he said, adding the kids love it, but he didn’t do it that night because of rainy weather.
Other volunteer readers included Karina Perez, Pixie Owyen, Lori Taft and the Marysville-Pilchuck High School cheerleaders.
PTA president Jani Gooch said second-year Principal Eneille Nelson has been a great, positive addition to the school family.“Along with all the teachers who have been here so long,” she said.
