EVERETT — A Marysville drywall contractor who admitted reporting less than one-half of 1 percent of the sales tax he collected on his jobs was sentenced to 75 months in prison Oct. 29 after failing to make any restitution.

Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Ellen J. Fair also ordered Mark K. Stanley, 54, to make more than $2.5 million in restitution.

Standley, the owner of Master’s Touch Drywall, pled guilty in October of last year to felony theft of sales tax and workers’ compensation fraud. He admitted only reporting about $3,000 of $853,000 in sales tax he collected from customers between 2003-2008, and failing to pay workers’ compensation premiums on employees he hired to do those jobs.

Fair said the exceptional sentence was appropriate given Standley’s crime and failure to make significant restitution. She had given him a year to make restitution, including penalties and interest, to the Department of Revenue and Department of Labor & Industries. He repaid only $500.

Fair ordered Standley to be taken into custody immediately.

The charges were brought in August of this year by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Attorney General’s Office at the request of Revenue and L&I.
