MARYSVILLE — Marysville residents will be able to protect themselves from identity thieves and do some recycling on Earth Day weekend when the Marysville Municipal Court will host the annual Community Shred Day.
The Municipal Court parking lot, located at 1015 State Ave., will serve as the staging grounds for the event on April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the city of Marysville, HomeStreet Bank, Shred-It and the Bleachers Grill at Cedarcrest Golf Course partnering to present the service.
“The Shred-A-Thon is one way we can encourage citizens to dispose of old documents that could put them at risk of identity theft if those papers wound up in the wrong hands,” Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring said. “We don’t want identity thieves to make a victim out of you.”
Shred-It will post two trucks at the site until 1 p.m., but they could leave sooner once they’re full, so come early. City of Marysville Community Information Officer Doug Buell explained that certain restrictions apply to Marysville participants. Document destruction is first-come, first-served, and limited to personal documents only, with no business documents accepted, and a limit of six boxes per person. No drop-offs of boxes will be permitted and participants must stay with their boxes until they’re shredded, to prevent theft or rummaging.

Also on April 30, the Marysville First Assembly Church at 4705 Grove St. will host its free “Got Trash Day” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until their dumpsters are full. Participants are welcome to bring televisions, computer devices, appliances and metal for recycling. The church is also accepting clothing donations, hosting a car wash and providing lunch.
That same day, the AQWA Team, the city of Marysville’s Surface Water Management Department and other partners will conduct a free Earth Day celebration and work party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Jennings Nature Park, located at State Route 528 and 53rd Avenue NE. Volunteers are asked to don sturdy shoes or boots and gloves, and come ready to help plant trees, remove blackberries, visit sponsor booths and join in educational activities for kids. Participants in the Earth Day events are also encouraged to bring canned, non-perishable food items or cash donations for the Marysville Community Food Bank. Food bank barrels will be stationed at all locations, while Salvation Army clothing barrels will also be available at the shredding event.
