MARYSVILLE – A car fire that got out of control has led to four families being displaced from their homes.
Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said Tuesday that the carport quickly caught fire, but fire engines responded quickly and doused the blaze. Dark, black smoke could be seen from miles away on the clear day June 24, drawing the attention of many onlookers.
Maloney estimated the damage to the four units at about $200,000. He said most of the damage was cosmetic caused by heat, such as to windows. Families went back to get whatever property was salvageable June 27.
The owner of the car that caught fire had just had some electrical work done on it because it was not running properly, Maloney said.
He added that the first fire crew there did an exceptional job and kept at least one other building from catching fire.
