Ashley, Torkkola named March students of the month

Anastasia Ashley and Keir Torkkola have been named the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis students of the month for March.

MARYSVILLE — Anastasia Ashley and Keir Torkkola have been named the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis students of the month for March.

Ashley has a 3.94 cumulative GPA and has taken AP classes in language and composition, U.S. history, comparative politics, statistics and calculus, as well as Honors and Highly Capable classes. She’s been an Honor Roll student for all four years at Marysville-Pilchuck High School and a National Honor Society member her junior and senior years, as well as a Gonzaga Presidential Scholar. She’s enrolled in Running Start and has earned a Certificate of Academic Achievement.

Ashley has played Girls Basketball her freshman and sophomore years and Varsity Girls Golf all four years at M-PHS, lettering and serving as captain in the latter. She’s served in the M-PHS Freshman Mentorship Program and “You Gotta Love This Place” her junior and senior years, in addition to serving as treasurer of the Volunteer Club, hosting an Australian exchange student, and taking part in Oktoberfest and various school assemblies.

Ashley’s community involvement includes stints with the Snohomish First Tee Program, the Marysville Little League volunteers, the Navy Family Welcome Wagon and the Stillaguamish Tribe Festival of the River “welcome tent.”

Torkkola has a 3.9 cumulative GPA and has taken AP classes in language and composition, U.S. history, comparative politics and statistics. He’s been an Honor Roll student since 2006 and a National Honor Society member his junior and senior years, in addition to receiving a 1650 on his SAT. He’s also been accepted into and received academic scholarships from the University of Washington and Western Washington University.

Torkkola has played Junior Varsity Tennis his sophomore year, Junior Varsity Soccer his freshman year and Varsity Soccer his sophomore through senior years, serving as captain during the latter. He’s served in the M-PHS Freshman Mentorship Program his senior year, as well as “You Gotta Love This Place” and the Special Needs Prom his junior and senior years.

Torkkola’s community involvement includes stints with the Graffiti Task Force and Operation Night Watch, the Marysville Community Food Bank and Operation Marysville Community Christmas, and the Eagles wings lunch and the senior citizen breakfast at the Marysville United Methodist Church. He’s also taken part in the Inter-high Leadership Conference and is the number-one sales associate at Famous Footwear.
