MARYSVILLE — Area teenagers were injured by vehicles at crosswalks two days in a row in the first week of March.

Teen hit by pickup, airlifted to Harborview

Marysville Fire and Police responded at approximately 8 p.m. March 4 to a car hitting a pedestrian at the intersection of Grove Street and 47th Avenue.

According to witnesses, a 14-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross against the light eastbound across 47th Avenue with a friend, when he was struck by a pickup truck.

The teen, a Marysville resident, suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The landing zone for the airlift was set up at Marysville Middle School.

Witnesses stated that the pedestrian was dressed in dark-colored clothing.

Investigation into this collision will be conducted by the Marysville Police Department Traffic Unit.

Teen taken to Providence with minor injuries

At approximately 5 p.m. March 5, Marysville Fire District personnel were again dispatched to the scene of a collision between a vehicle and a teen pedestrian.

Crews arrived at the intersection of 132nd Street NE and 51st Avenue NE to find that a 15-year-old male had been struck by a vehicle. Dispatch reported he was still down but conscious, and transported him to the Providence Regional Medical Center’s Colby Campus in Everett with minor injuries.

“The Marysville Fire District wants to remind you always to cross in a marked crosswalk, if there is one, and never underestimate the speed of a vehicle traveling toward you,” said Kristen Thorstenson, public education specialist and public information officer for the fire district. “As a driver, remember that children, including teens, don’t have a good grasp on vehicle speed and distance, so be sure to watch for them.”
