Mardi Gras crafts at Arlington Library
A festive carnival of crafts from around the world at the Arlington Library at 2 p.m., Feb. 21 honors the Carnevale in Italy, Pancake Day in England, Carnaval in Brazil or Mardi Gras in Louisiana, with refreshments to follow, supported by the Friends of the Arlington Library.

Babysitting basics
A course geared for youth ages 10-14 for babysitting certification is offered by Campfire, but open to all from 9 – 1 p.m., Feb. 21 and 28, at the at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE in Arlington. Participants will learn how to feed and diaper infants and toddlers, handle children’s bed and bath routines, set limits and handle troublesome behaviors, prevent accidents and respond to emergencies. ‘The Flounder’ at Lincoln Theatre Feb. 22
Oso horn player Bev Soler will contribute to the original music by Sharyn Peterson describing the discovery of an enchanted prince in the form of a flounder and his effect on the lives of a poor fisherman and his nagging wife. Performed by the Starry Night Players and the Rising Star Children’s Choir, with Phillip Peterson, storyteller, and Chris Brooks as the voice of the Flounder. The show starts at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Lincoln Theater, 712 S. First St., in downtown Mount Vernon. Grace Academy invites the community to its Preview Dessert at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24. Attendees will learn about Grace Academy, an accredited private Christian school for grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. A tour of the campus will be followed by a dessert and presentation. Bird watching on Spencer Island
Virginia Clark and Art Wait will lead a bird watching trip on Smith and Spencer Islands Tuesday, Feb. 24. Meet 8 a.m. at Langus Riverfront Park, Everett to see lots of waterfowl and raptors. Chamber plans auction, banquet
The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce has announced its Black & White Dinner Auction is set for Feb. 28 at the Medallion Hotel (formerly the Hawthorn Inn) and donations are needed for the silent and live auctions. The chamber will announce their citizen of the year winner as well as the artist selected for the cover of the next telephone directory. Wellness Wednesdays at M-PHS
People of all ages are welcome to join in Wellness Wednesday nights at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School track, which is open from 5 – 9 p.m. for anyone who wants to walk with trainer Tory Klementsen. Klementsen meets runners and walkers at 5 p.m. for fun and fitness in a safe, well lit atmosphere and it’s free. A certified fitness trainers, Klementsen is also training for the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon on Saturdays at Jennings Park. The training program is very “new runner/walker” friendly, Klementsen said. Klementsen is also offering a “Learn to Run” class for people interested in training for the St. Paddy’s Day Dash March 15, on Thursday nights through the Marysville Parks Department. Registration for that class is through Marysville Parks and Recreation.
Furry Friends Festival
EVERETT — Citizen volunteers in association with Everett Animal Services, The Humane Society of Skagit Valley, SPOT and NOAH are planning a Furry Friends Festival from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 to benefit the animals affected by kennel seizures in Snohomish and Skagit counties. The festival at the Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St., in Everett features several talented musicians, including Emmy Award-winning entertainer Tim Noah who headlines the day-long event with a special performance at 10 a.m. There is also a silent auction, an arts and crafts sale, white elephant sale, children’s activities, pet parade, animal talent show and pet costume contests. The event continues into the night with a dinner catered by the Holiday Inn at 6 p.m. followed by a live auction at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
