MARYSVILLE — Senior night might have brought a few butterflies to the Tommies.

In Wesco North boys basketball action, Marysville-Pilchuck had probably the most difficulty scoring it’s had all season in a 54-30 loss to Stanwood.

“It’s disappointing obviously,” said M-P coach Bary Gould. “We’ve had to battle some adversity this season, and we just couldn’t hit a shot, but you’ve got to give it to Stanwood, they had a good game plan for us defensively.”

Operating in a 2-3 zone defense for most of the game, Stanwood forced M-P to the outside and most attempts to find leading scorer Ryan Shannon foiled.

In fact, Marysville didn’t score its first field goal until halfway through the first quarter, while Stanwood was able to find multiple open shots and race out to an 18-4 lead.

M-P spent the rest of the game trying to play catch-up, but never came closer than 24-12 as the Spartans held a 28-15 halftime lead and didn’t look back.

Leading the Tommies in scoring was guard Nate Williams, with 11 points, while Shannon finished with seven points to go along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Gould said goodbye to seniors Cody Dockendorf, Chris Dockendorf, Brandon Babiker, Deyamonta Diaz and Jeffrey Miles, and expounded upon their work ethic.

“Every senior class leaves a legacy,” he said. “And this group was a bunch of hard-working kids that came in day-in and day-out in practice.”

Gould also offered hope for next season.

“Our core guys are underclassmen so we’re pretty excited about where we’ll be able to go in the future,” he said.
