MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck boys basketball team faced yet another tough opponent in Glacier Peak on Friday, Jan. 12, and finished the game with a difficult 55-35 loss.

The Tomahawks have competed against 15 schools and suffered a loss to each of them so far in their regular season, and with only five games left, chances are slim that the team will make it into the post-season.

Glacier Peak scored 17 points in the first quarter, perfecting rebounds, fast breaks and good solid passes. Marysville-Pilchuck managed seven points in the first quarter, and they seemed a little off with dropped balls, poor passes and missed shots keeping the point differential high.

The Tommies kept better pace with the Grizzlies in the second quarter, when they upped their game, both offensively and defensively, blocking shots effectively and taking the time to focus on their passing and shooting. They scored 10 points in the second quarter, while Glacier Peak scored 12.

The teams went into half-time with a score of 29-17 for the Grizzlies.

The Tomahawks had an opportunity to rally a comeback, but unfortunately the Grizzlies outpaced them in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 12 points in the third to the Tomahawks’ eight points and 14 in the fourth to the Tomahawks’ 10 points. The game finished with a score of 55-35.

Marysville-Pilchuck’s 6-foot-3 junior Austin Lobaugh scored 10 points during the game, including two 3-pointers, while 6-foot-2 junior Dante Fields also scored 10 points. Nick Henry, a 6-foot-tall senior, scored four points, while 6-foot-4 sophomore guard Michael Painter scored three points. Conner Martinis, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, scored two points, as did 6-foot-1 senior point guard Dez Ritcheson and 6-foot-6 junior Kaleb Keeton.

The Tomahawks now face cross-town rival Marysville Getchell away on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m.
