MARYSVILLE — The Marysville chapter of Soroptimist International attracted more than 200 shoppers to their annual “Junktique” sale, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jennings Park barn, on behalf of their work in support of the community.

“Junktique” Co-Chair Alice Demmig noted that the gently used household items sold included toys, dishes, jewelry, bedding, bicycles, chairs, couches and two sets of sofas and added that even before their raffle and bake sale were factored in, “This sale has done well, especially on small items.” Fellow Co-Chair Marlene Likkel clarified that while the event is a “glorified garage sale,” it’s named “Junktique” to indicate the upscale quality of its goods.

Demmig explained all proceeds from the sale would be reinvested in the community, through donations to groups including the Marysville Library, the Marysville Community Food Bank, Relay For Life, after-school programs, domestic violence awareness and prevention organizations, and scholarships to aid adult women reentering the work force after extended absences. The Marysville Soroptimist chapter also supports vocational education programs and scholarships for local high school boys and girls.

“We’re proud that the money we raise stays local to Marysville,” Demmig said.
