Marilyn Bullock likes Chevrolets best, especially Camaros.
She and her husband Bob Bullock aren’t car collectors, but they are organizing Arlington’s Show-n-Shine Car show for the third year with a lot of help from Bob Ketchum and Ken Johnson, Marilyn Bullock said.
“They are doing all the leg work for me,” Bullock told The Arlington Times last week. “They deserve a lot of publicity,” said Bullock who works by day at Unique Interiors and has been an active member of the Downtown Arlington Business Association for many years — even before it was called that.
She said that Johnson is a car person with lots of connections in the world of car collectors. He and Ketchum have been helping get trophies and T-shirts ordered and donations for door prizes.
“I helped plan the car show in 2006, then became chair the next year,” Bullock said.
She said they are expecting even more cars than the 180 they had last year.
“I am praying for good weather,” Bullock said.
“We have heard about people coming from British Columbia and from the Columbia River. We’ve got folks coming from all over.”
The car show has an impressive list of sponsors to help pay for all the paraphernalia, like dash plaques and trophies, prizes and T-shirts.
They are planning a 50-50 raffle to raise funds for an old town clock, Bullock said.
“That’s our new project. We saw one in Snohomish that we like. It costs about $1,000,” Bullock said.
The car show will stretch from Division Street to First Street, assuming Bullock’s prayers are fulfilled and it turns out to be a nice day.
Classic car owners prefer sunny days; they don’t want their cars to get muddy.
The central clearing house for registration, a DJ with music, and raffle drawings will be in the merchants’ parking lot in the 300 block of North Olympic Avenue.
Medallion Hotel is the host hotel for out-of-town visitors and Stilly Auto Parts has once again donated a huge toolbox for the raffle prize.
Registration is $20 and viewers are welcome to check it out for free.
Proceeds from the registration fees will help support the Arlington Food Bank and the Cancer Care Unit at Cascade Valley Hospital.
“It should be very fun,” Bullock said.
