TULALIP — The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce’s Aug. 28 Business Before Hours, from 7-9 a.m. in the Tulalip Resort Casino Canoes Cabaret Room, will serve as the kickoff for the “Buy Local” awareness campaign.

Kimberlie Ritchey, director of administration for the Chamber, deemed “Buy Local” a “win-win-win” for businesses, consumers and the Marysville and Tulalip communities as a whole.

The chamber is launching this program in partnership with the city of Marysville, the Tulalip Tribes, The Marysville Globe and The Arlington Times, North County Outlook and the Everett Herald. The kickoff will feature a panel of speakers who will cover the impacts of shopping locally, how to educate citizens to do so, and the marketing opportunities that can open up for area businesses in the process. The panel will consist of Marysville Police Chief Rick Smith, city of Marysville Public Works Director Kevin Nielsen, Marysville Globe and Arlington Times Publisher DeAnna Emborski, North County Outlook Publisher Beckye Randall, and Sean Flaherty of the Everett Herald.

“Marketing has always been an important component in running a successful business,” Ritchey said. “However, to survive today, it is absolutely imperative that even those with established customer bases continue to employ innovative, strategic and consistent marketing tactics. This economy is forcing people to look much harder at their purchasing decisions and make stricter comparisons between suppliers, and now is the time when you must stand out. Easier said than done with your diminished marketing budget? Great news. There is an excellent way to accomplish this without breaking the bank and show your community support at the same time.”

For the following monthly rates, “Buy Local” advertisers will appear in each of the four participating newspapers, and in the Chamber newsletter, once per month, for a total of five ads monthly, reaching more than 195,957 Snohomish County residents and businesses. $25 per month will feature a company’s name and phone number, while $50 per month will provide the company’s name, logo, address, phone number and Web site.

“Clearly, it makes sense to ‘Buy Local,’ whether as an individual consumer or as a business owner,” Chamber President and CEO Caldie Rogers said. “The benefits of keeping our money in our own communities can create a domino effect that can preserve a neighborhood and our quality of life, even in an economic slowdown.”

Attendance is $23 with an RSVP, or $28 at the door for non-registered attendees. For more information, call 360-659-7700, or e-mail Kimberlie@marysvilletulalipchamber.com.
