Mary Chase McDonough died peacefully on August 28, 2009.
Mary was born in Sumner, Illinois on January 20, 1915. Mary was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois and served as a nurse in the Army Air Corps during World War II where she met her future husband. She came to Marysville after her discharge to marry in October 1946.
Her greatest love was to create pretty things. Over the years, she indulged in oil painting, gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and many other crafts, but her favorite was ceramics with Marilynn Albro. If you knew her, you surely received one or many of her products. If you expressed an interest in (you fill in the blank), she would find whatever she could to support your current pursuit. Mary was also a member and Past Matron of Afton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Her husband of 53 years, James A. McDonough, preceded her in death in July 1999. Her sister, Delilah, and brothers, Richard and Gilbert, also passed before her. She is survived by her daughter (Midge) Mary C. McDonough and husband Patrick Robertson and grandson, Jason S. Brown and wife April and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Alexaviar. Mary is also survived by Jim’s sister, Dorothy Philipp, and brother, Lawrence McDonough and wife, Alice. There are many special nieces and nephews and their husbands and wives and children.
There will be a gathering of family and close friends at her home on Saturday September 12. We’ll eat about 2 PM. Please bring something she made to share and remember her by.
