MARYSVILLE – Abby McGee and Griffin Hubert, both seniors at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, are the Students of the Month for February, chosen by the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis clubs.

McGee has been a standout swimmer for four years, recently signing a letter of intent to compete in college. She was a seven-time state finalist, four-time district champion, made the league all-star team four years and was captain three years. She also teaches swimming at the Stillaguamish Athletic Club. She also competes in golf and was twice captain and twice a district qualifier. She has made academic teams in both sports.

She has a 3.89 grade point average and a National Honor Society member, despite taking numerous Advanced Placement courses. For community service, she has been a camp counselor and tutor at Kellogg Marsh Elementary, along with being a tutor for Advancement Via Individual Determination. For four years she has been part of “Hoops for Hope,” a charity event for students in need. She has coordinated M-P’s effort in its annual food drive and for three years led work on the Senior Citizens Play and Dinner.

McGee has had numerous positions in the Associated Student Body, treasurer, historian, vice president and public relations manager. In that last position this year she runs an online news site for the school to daily make sure everyone knows what’s going on at the school.

She’s also been on leadership, Homecoming, prom and special needs prom committees. In the future she hopes to be a physician’s assistant, possibly in a 3rd World country, because she likes biology and travel.

Hubbert also is thinking of the medical field, planning to take pre-med at Brigham Young University. He also is thinking of going on a mission for his Mormon church, and also the peace corps.

For his Eagle Scout project, he had a blood drive. He went to a number of churches to try to drum up participation, then called donors the day before and day of to make sure they would show up.

Since he was 14 he worked in his dad’s home business, making high-end bicycle touring bags. He also was on the Mayor’s Youth Council, and is a youth leader at church. For sports, Hubbert is captain of the tennis team, having played all four years. He has a 3.5 gpa, taking several AP classes. He’s the senior class vice president, a member of the honor society and leadership class, and is vice president of the cinematography club.

He recently won honorable mention for a sculpture on dinosaurs.

In the community, he has been involved in Jennings Park cleanup, cleared trees to help create Doleshel Park, and also helped with creating the Spray Park.
