Marysville Community Playhouse Association has announced a new play-reading group will meet 7 – 9 p.m., on the first and third Thursdays of each month starting Feb. 5 at Marysville’s United Methodist Church, 5600 64th St. N.E. to read aloud and discuss comedy, drama, farce and other genres of theater. The first play featured will be a comedy by Sam Bobrick called “Getting Sarah Married.” Scripts will be provided and meetings are free. Local playwrights are encouraged to bring their work for the group to read. Experienced actors are also encouraged, as well as those with a secret dream of acting, or any theater lovers in general. Arlington schools bands concert Feb. 10

Arlington High School will host a combined high school and middle schools band concert at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. in Arlington. Origami Workshop

A two-hour workshop on the Japanese art form of origami will be offered at the Baxter Senior and Community Center, 2 – 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10. The class will begin with simple cranes and move up to more intricate projects. Materials are included in the cost of $17. A movie to honor firefighters

The Assembly of God Church in Arlington is planning a special tribute to Arlington area firefighters. They are showing a movie, “Fire Proof” at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 15, and the community is invited to join in the fun. They have capactiy for 500 and tickets are free. Children age 4 – 12 also get a movie of their own, “A New Vegie” and child care will be provided. “We’ve invited all the Arlington, Bryant and Silvana firefighters,” said Kathy Carlin. “We just want to honor them.” The movie will be presented at the church, 201 N. Chamber plans auction, banquet

The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce has announced its Black & White Dinner Auction is set for Feb. 28 at the Medallion Hotel (formerly the Hawthorn Inn) and donations are needed for the silent and live auctions. The chamber will announce their citizen of the year winner as well as the artist selected for the cover of the next telephone directory. Last call for art for telephone directory

The deadline is Feb. 18 for submissions of phone book cover art to the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is calling on its local artists to submit a sketch, painting or photograph of something that embodies the spirit of Arlington. This could be any location or detail of the area. Artists over the age of 16 are welcome to submit their entries to the chamber by mail or e-mail. Mailing address is 3710 168th St., or e-mail to jennifer@arlington-smokeypointchamber.com.

Marley’s Ghost, Rhonda Vincent tickets now for sale

Tickets are now available from the Byrnes Performing Arts Center web site, www.byrnesperformingarts.org, for two upcoming bluegrass concerts in Arlington.

Featuring a local talent Ed Littlefield Jr, the band, Marley’s Ghost starts 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

Rhonda Vincent and The Rage take the Arlington stage at 7:30 p.m. March 21.
