MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck has some top-notch wrestlers in the smallest and largest weight classes, but also some pretty good ones in-between, Coach Craig Iverson said.

“They put in some tremendous work in the off-season,” he said of the squad.

He said his best shot at a state champion probably weights in a 106 pounds – senior Cole Daurie, who placed fourth at state last year.

The Tomahawks have three wrestlers back who were alternates to state, led by heavyweight Jeff Roullier, who placed fifth at regionals.

The other two alternates returning are Cayden White at 170 pounds and Baily Alvis at 138 pounds.

Austin Davis was a league champion at 120 pounds, and he is back.

The coach also expects a lot out of Adam Holstein, who went to Cascade in Everett the past two years, but is returning for his senior year to M-P.

“It’s one of our best years for big guys,” Iverson said.

He said even those who turned out for football or cross country aren’t in wrestling shape yet. The Tomahawks open their season hosting a Jamboree Nov. 30.

“They are losing weight as they turn out,” he said. “Their bodies are getting used to it.”

Iverson said there are only two girls on the team so it will combine with Marysville Getchell. He said he expects girls wrestling to pick up in the next few years like it has elsewhere.

“It only takes one or two guys to get the bug and then pull their friends in,” Iverson said.
