Evelyn E. Landon, 83, died at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA on December 30, 2017.
Evelyn was born on March 24, 1934 in Everett, Washington. She was the fifth of seven children born to Roy and Elsie Olson. After graduating from Marysville High School in 1952, she worked at Chaffee’s department store in Everett before marrying Robert Landon in 1955. During the course of their marriage, there were 19 career-related moves, including the Chicago area, Helena, Montana, and several moves within Washington state. Having been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 19, Evelyn did an outstanding job of taking care of her health over the years.
In 2002, she received the University of Washington Gold Award and the Lilly for Life Award for living with diabetes for 50 years. Evelyn was active in the Lutheran church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for several years. She was known for her beautiful works of stitchery, which still grace the homes of many relatives and friends. She made amazing pies, and loved music, reading and the Seattle Mariners. She had a heart for play and was the absolute best playmate for her young grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Dan) Anderson; her son, Ronald (Teresa) Landon; three grandchildren, Jack Landon, T.J. Crabtree and Alexis Anderson; three great grandchildren, Thomas, Jane and Joseph Crabtree; two brothers, Kenneth Olson and Jim Olson; her sister, Pat Raines; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Landon; brothers, John Olson and Donald Olson; and her sister, Lois Norgaard.
Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2018, 12:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 9320 Meadow Way, Everett, WA 98208.
Graveside service will follow at Marysville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Olympia, WA.
