Anthony Craig, a co-principal at Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary, has been recognized as an “Outstanding Young Educator” of the year.

The Washington State Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development announced the award at the Sept. 2 Marysville School Board meeting.

“The Outstanding Young Educator award is our way of recognizing an emerging educational leader and share his or her exemplary practices with the education community at large,” said Art Jarvis, executive director of WSASCD.

Craig is committed to social justice and advocating in various roles for his students, says a peer statement read by Kyle Kinoshita, the district’s director of teaching and learning.

Superintendent Becky Berg wrote in a statement: “Dr. Craig has shown a deep commitment to serving the students in the school and creating an identity-safe place for all students. He has had the courage to confront racism and elitism in a culture of low expectations and done so in a way that unites people, rather than as a way that divides.”
