MARYSVILLE – Hundreds of people turned out on a sunny day for the Kiwanis Fishing Derby Saturday.
Ken Edwards of Marysville said he’s been bringing kids to the event for years. His daughter, Abigail, caught her first fish ever at the event a few years ago using one of the miniature poles.
She looked like an old hand at fishing when she reeled in a 14-inch rainbow trout Saturday, even trying to get the hook out that the fish had swallowed deep into its belly.
Edwards also brought Abigail’s friend, Nohri Nunez, who caught her first fish ever. Her excitement, though, did not match that of Teegan Gettemy, a little girl who was fishing nearby. She liked Nohri’s fish so much she stuck her hand out to pet it.
Edwards said that’s what fishing with kids is all about.
“If the kids want to go have fun I’ve got the gear,” he said.
The Marysville Kiwanis Club, Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club, John’s Sporting Goods and Marysville parks department put on the 24th annual event.
