MARYSVILLE — A young woman stabbed two Marysville officers with a pair of scissors but did not leave them with serious injuries, according to reports released by police this week.

A woman called dispatchers at 10:12 p.m. Thanksgiving Day in north Marysville. She shouted into the phone that she needed officers but didn’t know the name of her apartment complex.

Three officers responded to an address associated with the phone number, in the 18100 block of 25th Avenue NE.

Police knocked.

Immediately, a young woman, 18, opened the door, according to the reports. Officers heard crying inside the apartment and told the woman they needed to come in to make sure everyone was OK. The woman refused. Instead she pushed an officer, who responded by grabbing her arm, police wrote. Then she tried to tackle him.

The time between the knock, and the fight was about 10 seconds.

Police struggled to restrain the woman because she wore slippery clothes and weighed more than 300 pounds. As police tried to stop her, she swung a blade that hit an officer’s hand, according to the reports. He yelled, “Knife!” and watched the woman reach over her left shoulder, to stab another officer in the shoulder, court papers say. The officers grabbed her arms, pushed her down and handcuffed her.

Police looked at the weapon. It was a pair of orange office scissors.

One officer had broken skin on his index finger. The other, who was hit in the shoulder, didn’t have injuries. The woman reportedly shouted at police to slit her throat or to let her kill herself.

Police learned the woman lives with mental health problems. She’d been fighting with her family before officers arrived, police Sgt. James Maples said.

The incident wasn’t related to another police response hours later in the same neighborhood. That case involved a report of gunshots.

The woman was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of two counts of second-degree assault.
