MARYSVILLE – Ian Meetsma continues to stand out for the combined Marysville-Pilchuck/Marysville Getchell swim teams.
He won the 100-yard freestyle Thursday in a home meet against powerhouse Lake Stevens with a time of 54.8 seconds.
The M-P swimmer also was second in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1 minute. 3.8 seconds.
He also played key roles in M-P’s second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, and in the third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
He combined with teammates Leif Anderson, Seth Little and Jayden Boyle in the first race to finish in 1:59.2. MG was third in that race with Andrew Christensen, Lauren Vital, Kameron Wilkes and Jesse Nahinu with a time of 2:01.2.
MG beat M-P in the 400 relay with Wilkes, Christensen, Hunter Brown and Nahinu with a time of 4:13.7.
Meetsma, Anderson, Boyle and Little swam for M-P in 4:19.9.
There were other outstanding finishes as well.
Anderson was second in the 100-yard breastroke in 1:13.1.
Little was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.3.
Nahinu also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.2.
In diving, M-P placed second through fourth. Andrew Kallio scored 207.65 points, Anderson 197.15 and Daniel Kirkwood 183.55.
Placing third in the 500-yard freestyle was Christensen with a clocking of 6:09.6.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Nahinu placed third in 25.1 seconds.
MG’s 200-yard freestyle relay team also placed third in 2:06.8. On that squad were Wilkes, Colin Black, Cameron Chadd and Vital.
Vital also was the top local finisher in the 200-meter individual medley placing fourth in 3:00.8.
Both teams lost to Lake Stevens in the team scoring 130-44 for M-P and 141-38 for MG.
Girls basketball
After giving up 19 points to Cascade in the first quarter, Lakewood gave up just 19 more the rest of the game to beat the visitors 53-38 Thursday.
Malia Ryden had the hot hand for the Cougars, scoring 22 points. Riley Molloy was the only other one in double figures with 12, although Myriam Freshilla came close with 9. Rounding out the scoring were Jasmine Graham with 5, Malia Schroeder and Nicole Miller with 2 each, and Shealey Miller scored 1.
