ARLINGTON – Kent Prairie Elementary School’s “Choir on Fire” has been entertaining Arlington senior citizens and community members for nearly two decades. This year, the choir was part of Arlington’s Santa Parade, the Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach, and Handel’s Messiah at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center. On Dec. 18, they performed for residents of the Olympic Place retirement and assisted living community and Cascade Valley Senior Living.
Olympic Place resident Helen Washburn was impressed. “They made eye contact with us and even sang in different languages.”
Another resident, Barbara Hinton, said, “It really takes us back to when our children were that age.”
The students sang carols and other holiday music. “It’s important to connect with the senior citizens and other community members,” Kent Prairie music specialist Laureen Breon said.
