Mountain Loop Highway closed for winter

Access to the Mountain Loop Highway is closed from east of Silverton to Darrington for the winter. Due to extreme weather conditions, Snohomish County has closed public access to the Mountain Loop Highway at Deer Creek cutting off east-bound traffic over Barlow Pass. “The Forest Service is not encouraging public use of the Mountain Loop Highway,” said Peter Forbes, District Ranger for the Darrington Ranger District. “Access to those that live in the Bedal area is still available through Darrington and the public is encouraged to check road and weather conditions if they want to travel into the forest.” For public safety Mountain Loop is closed until spring. For more information on road conditions and closures check the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Web site at: www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/conditions/ or the Washington State Department of Transportation www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/trafficalerts/ and for Snohomish County closures at www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/Departments/Public_Works/Divisions/Road_Maint/Road_Closures.
