MARYSVILLE – Mikhail Montez continues to be a dominant force for the Marysville Getchell girls basketball team, leading the Chargers to a 58-44 win over Stanwood Tuesday night.
Montez, a 5-foot-10 senior post, recorded her third-straight double-double grabbing 13 rebounds to go along with her 22 points in the Wesco 3A game.
Maddy Grandbois, a 5-9 junior guard, was just as dominate with seven blocked shots to go along with her 15 points. Sydney Norton, a 5-7 senior guard, tallied 14 points as the Chargers improved to 13-3 on the year, 7-3 in league play. They have won nine of their last 10 games.
MG jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, and went ahead 30-19 at the half. But the Chargers didn’t score for the first five minutes of the third quarter, and the visitors cut the lead to 30-24. But they got back on track, scoring 28 points the rest of the way to win with ease.
Other scoring for MG: Kortney Crane 3, and Kiki Green and Madison Hagglund with 2 each.
Meanwhile, in Arlington, the Eagles beat Marysville-Pilchuck 73-23.
Hailey Hiatt led the Eagles (12-4, 9-1 Wesco 3A) with 16 points, and Josie Stupey added 10.
Miriah Summers led the Tomahawks (5-12, 1-10) with seven points. Jayda Obee added 6, Madyson Baxter and Jaslynn Devries had 4 each, and Imajine Moses scored 2.
For the Eagles, Keira Marsh 7, Jackie Stupey and Abby Schwark 6 each, Ella Strittmatter, Mackenzie Fischer and Georgia Arnold 5 apiece, Allison DeBerry 4, Sierra Scheppele 3 and with 2 apiece Abbey Hassing, Makenzie Gage and Jordan Bartlow.
In a 2A game, Sequim beat Lakewood 77-39.
Boys swimming
Mariner beat Marysville-Pilchuck 118-51 and Marysville Getchell 109-52 Tuesday.
MG won the 200-yard relay with Nicholas Carlson, Jesse Nahinu, Kameron Wilkes and Andrew Christensen in 1 minute, 59.48 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle, Ian Meetsma of M-P was the winner in 1:59.39. He also won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.58.
Nahinu won the 50 free in 24.5 seconds.
Christensen took the 500 free in 5:48.16.
In diving, Andrew Kallio of M-P was the winner with 245.15 points.
Boys wrestling
Marysville Pilchuck powered past Oak Harbor 53-19 Tuesday.
Isaiah Galindo lost a tough one at 152 pounds 3-1 to start things off, but at 160 Ahmad Humoud won 9-4. At 170 Mauro Bejar won by pin in 3:48 and Cayden White followed with another pin in 1:44 at 182 pounds. At 285 pounds Jeff Roullier won by pin in 1:21. At 120 pounds Tanner Lauzon won by pin in 3:24 and Austin Davis won 8-5 at 126 pounds. At 138 pounds, Nick Cantu won by technical fall 17-2. M-P won four other matches by forfeit, while the home team won two that way.
Also, at Everett, the Seagulls beat MG 50-21.
At 195 pounds, Corbin Bonner won by pin in 1:32, and at 220 Cheron Smith picked up a tough 3-1 victory. At 138 pounds, Trey Padgett won by pin in 2:58. MG’s other points came from a forfeit.
