During the regular season, the Arlington girls basketball team beat Snohomish by two points.

But it’s playoff time now.

In the 3A District 1 championship game at Everett Community College last Saturday, Arlington was upset by Snohomish 60-44.

The Eagle girls looked tired playing their third game in three days. Their high-pressure defense just wasn’t in sync as they fell behind 13-2 in the first quarter and never were really in the game.

They could not stop the inside game of Snohomish’s two bigs – Courtney Perry, who had 17 points, and Maya DuChesne, who added 14.

Keira Marsh led the Eagles with 13 points. Allison DeBerry provided a spark off the bench with 8. Josie Stupey also had 8. Other scoring: Hailey Hiatt with 6, with 2 apiece Abby Schwark, Makenzie Gage , Mollie Janousek and Sierra Scheppele, and Jordan Bartlow added 1.

Arlington advanced to the final with a 55-38 win over Edmonds-Woodway Friday.

Trailing 14-6 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime, Arlington’s defense tightened in the second half, outscoring the visitors 22-3 in the third quarter alone.

Hiatt led the way with 18 points followed by Scheppele with 16. Other scoring: Stupey and Marsh with 6 each; Abbey Hassing 5, Ella Strittmatter 2 and with 1 each Jackie Stupey and Janousek.

To reach that point, top-seeded Arlington tied a school-record with 16 3-pointers on its way to a 62-49 win over No. 8 Meadowdale Thursday.

Scheppele scored 19 points, hitting 5 of 9 3-point attempts, and Hiatt added 16 points. Other scoring: DeBerry 9, Marsh and Hassing 6 each, Makenzie Gage 4 and Josie Stupey 2.

Marysville Getchell

The MG girls were knocked out of the tourney Friday.

In their loss to Meadowdale, the Chargers played them close every quarter but the third, when they were outscored 18-4.

Mikail Montez scored a game-high 18 points and Maddy Grandbois added 13 for the Chargers, which ended the year with a 15-6 record.

Other MG scoring: Kortney Crane and Sydney Norton with 3 each; and with 2 apiece Madison Hagglund, Alexus Atkins and Kiki Green 2.

Thursday, Montez scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the MG girls fell to E-W 52-39.

The Chargers didn’t get going until the third quarter, falling behind 17-4 after one and 27-10 at halftime. Their 21 points in the third period was more than they scored the other three quarters combined.

Other Charger scoring: Green 5, Norton and Grandbois 4 each, and Crane 3.
