MARYSVILLE – Hundreds of kids and their families attended the 25th annual Marysville Fishing Derby Saturday at the Kiwanis Pond at Jennings Park.
Members of the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club loaned out fishing poles and bait to kids ages 2-12 who didn’t have them. The Marysville Kiwanis Club served over 200 pancake breakfasts with the help of the Boy Scouts and its new Aktion Club of special needs adults.
Bicycles purchased by the Kiwanis and other sponsors were awarded at the end of the event in a random drawing.
City employees collected items for the food bank at the event.
The city stocked the pond the day before the derby, and each participant was allowed to catch two fish. Kids can fish in the pond even when the derby isn’t going on.
Meanwhile, another fishing derby will take place May 18 at Twin Lakes from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
