When she’s on, she’s on, and she’s tough to beat.
She is Riley Mae Swanson, Lakewood’s ace who struck out 14 in a 6-2 win at Lynden Christian Monday.
Swanson pitched a 3-hitter and gave up just one earned run as the Cougars had a couple of errors.
She only walked one in the seven-inning complete game.
The Cougars scored all the runs they would need with three runs in the fifth, after the home team had gone in front 1-0.
MARYSVILLE
Softball
MG scored two runs in the bottom of the seven inning to earn a hard-fought 6-5 home win over Mountlake Terrace Monday.
The Chargers are 14-4 overall, 10-3 in league, while MLT dropped to 8-8, 7-4 in Wesco.
MG trailed 4-1 after four innings, then chipped way at the lead until the end.
Catcher Shannon Patton led MG at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double. Pitcher Brionna Palm went 2-3 with a double and Skyleigh Morrison also connect on a double.
MLT actually outhit the winner 10-9, but was plagued by four errors.
Meanwhile, M-P pounded Lynnwood 15-1 in five innings.
The Tommies are now 10-5 overall, 9-3 in Wesco North play. Lynnwood fell to 3-13, 1-10 in league.
Freshman pitcher Emily Downing was the winner, but also did well at bat, going 2-3 with a double. Also hitting doubles were Cassidy Phelps, Sydney Zachry and Riley Perrine.
M-P tallied six runs in the third inning and seven in five in the fifth to take the game.
ARLINGTON
Softball
The Eagle girls also won Monday 7-4 over Cedarcrest, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to ice the game.
Lexi Eck stood out a the plate for Arlington going 3-4, while Madisyn Estes smacked a triple.
Lizzie Durfee was the winner on the mound for the Eagles.
Arlington is 6-9 overall, 5-6 in Wesco North play.
