LAKEWOOD – The host Cougar track team qualified a few athletes for state on the first day of the District 1-2 2A Championships Wednesday.
Zachery Anderson and sophomore Kaedyn Bustad tied for second in the pole vault, each with marks of 12 feet.
William Davis placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 134 feet, 7 inches.
For the girls, junior Bailey Hammond was sixth in the discus at 104 feet.
Sophomore Alexis Allen placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 11 inches.
Advancing to the finals Friday after preliminary races Wednesday were:
Machai Harris, first, 100 meters, 10.88; Harris, first, 200, 22.92; Jordan Gonzales, fifth, 400; Alex Jensen, third, 800; Spencer Fleming, Harris, Gonzalez, Kaelin Nelson, first, 4 by 100 relay, 43.86; Gonzalez, Fleming, Daniel Crawford, Jensen, second, 4 by 400 relay; Freshman Jasmine Graham placed eighth in the 200; Alexis Allen, Stella Seth, Hannah Primrose and Graham were fifth in the 4 by 100 relay.
3A District meet
Arlington and Marysville-Pilchuck each had a champion Wednesday at the 3A District 1 track meet Wednesday, qualifying them for state at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma next week.
Cade Tucker of M-P won the shot put with a toss was 51 feet, 1.5 inches. Teammate Jeffrey Rouillier was sixth.
Eagle Julia Parra was the champion in the discus, with her throw of 128 feet, 3 inches.
In the high jump finals, sophomore Jaden Roskelley of Arlington was second. Teammates Bryce Peterson was third and Joshua Gutierrez was fifth. Peter Koncoski of MG and Jamaari Jefferson of M-P tied for seventh.
Gutierrez was fourth in the long jump and Roskelley eighth.
For the girls, Jersey Heiss of Arlington was second in the javelin. Kate Roberts of MG was fifth.
Corianne Cross of M-P was second in the pole vault. Teammate Summer Sanden was fourth. Breanna Gonzales of Arlington was fifth.
Sanden was fourth in the long jump.
