ARLINGTON – Residents looking to de-clutter their homes and garages this spring have a chance to give some of their bulky items the heave-ho on June 8.

The city’s annual Spring Cleanup is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. that Saturday at the Arlington Airport. Use the 188th Street NE west entrance.

The event that’s been going for over 20 years helps keep the community looking beautiful and protects the environment by properly recycling items that ordinarily would end up in the landfill, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

“It’s a great opportunity for residents to get rid of unwanted and broken stuff that has been accumulating in their homes and garages for free,” she said.

Before sorting what stays and what goes, there are some guidelines.

City residents can bring the following items to the site for free disposal: Refrigerators and freezers; computers, televisions, monitors and keyboards; printers and copiers; microwaves; recyclable metals; furniture and household debris; and up to four tires per household, which must be removed wheels.

The following items cannot be accepted: household hazardous waste; yard debris or household garbage; commercial vendor or business disposal; personal document shredding and latex paint.
