Girls soccer
After battling to a 0-0 tie at the half, Arlington demolished Mount Vernon in the second stanza, winning its home match 8-0. Jersey Heiss exploded for four goals to lead the way. Audrey Jay added two. Jordan Bartlow and Carly Bartlow added a goal each. Getting assists were Jordan Bartlow, Jay and Hailey Hiatt.
Meanwhile, Lakewood scored three goals in the second half to come-from-behind and beat Mariner 3-1 Tuesday in a home match.
Mariner led 1-0 at the break, but Jaylene Priebe-Garcia scored two goals and had an assist and Kahlan Buckley added another goal for the Cougars.
Kaley Chang and Jasmine Graham also had assists for Lakewood.
The Cougars started the season last Saturday at Sequim.
Graham passed to Iliana Ramirez for the only goal for the visitors in the 1-1 tie.
Also, Marysville Getchell and Bellingham battled to a 0-0 tie Tuesday.
Boys tennis
MG won at Mariner 6-1 Tuesday.
The Chargers won three of four singles matches but they were all very close and went to three sets.
Mason Devereux won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; Mikah Marshall’s match was even closer 7-5, 7-6, 7-4; Liam Perkins had another super-close match 7-5, 7-6, 7-5; but Daniel Muongchanh of Mariner defeated Rylee Worth, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. MG won all the doubles matches with only No. 1 going to three sets.
Keagan Johnson-Kole Johnson won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2; while winning in straight sets were Ryder Hurley-Keegan Brennan 6-1, 6-3; and Kevin James-Marshall Campbell 7-5, 7-5.
The Marysville Pilchuck at Lynnwood match was postponed because of rain.
