FOOTBALL
Marysville-Pilchuck will play at Arlington Friday for the Wesco 3A North title after both teams won big Friday.
No matter the outcome, both teams will advance to the post-season playoffs.
M-P demolished Ferndale 42-14 while Arlington did the same to Everett 40-7.
Marysville
Sophomore fullback Dylan Carson ran for 269 yards and three TDs on 21 carries to lead M-P. Carson, son of head coach Brandon, scored on runs of 7, 80 and 66 yards. Tailback Jordan Justice scored on runs of 47 and 7 yards. He had 8 carries for 80 yards. Meanwhile, MG got by Oak Harbor 20-13 Friday. The home team led 13-7 at halftime, but the visitors held them scoreless in the second half. In the meantime, Caleb Blonk scored from 6-yards out to put the Chargers ahead after the extra point in the third period. Cheron Smith scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth period, and Austin Bryon scored from 41 yards out in the first for MG. The Chargers are 2-5 and the Wildcats 1-5.
Arlington
Jaden Roskelley scored on runs of 32, 20 and 3 yards for the Eagles, 6-1, in their 40-7 win over Everett Friday. Chase Petersen added a receiving score on a 15-yard pass from Trent Nobach, and Gavin Skyles scored on a 10-yard run and Holden Erken on a 51-yard run late in the game.
Lakewood
Cougar QB Jared Taylor threw TDs of 22 and 28 yards to Brayden Boortz in the Cougars’ 34-16 Northwest 2A Sky Division win over the Blaine Borderites Friday. Taylor added a 27-yard rushing TD for Lakewood, 6-1. Landen Pruitt scored from 5 yards and Malik Dotson from 57 yards in the rout.
VOLLEYBALL
Arlington is known for having a handful of powerful hitters, but now they are also showing that power from the back court. The Eagles scored easily and often on their serves in beating Marysville-Pilchuck in three straight Thursday. The Tommies were back on their heels on the defensive and never got their offense on track in losing at Arlington 25-15, 25-15 and 25-11 in a Wesco 3A match. Arlington improved its record to 10-0 while the Tommies dropped to 3-6. Arianna Bilby again led the Eagles with 16 kills and 5 digs. Emily Mekelburg added 8 kills, 2 service aces and 6 digs. Teagan Sutherland contributed 5 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks. Taylor Pederson had 20 assists, 4 aces and 4 digs. Carly Scallan led M-P with 4 kills while Jenna Olson had 21 digs. A block by Julia Parra and aces by Bilby and Sutherland gave Arlington a 12-7 lead in the first game, and Pederson added another ace to make it 17-12. A kill by Mekelburg followed by two more by Sutherland set up match point. Parra ended it with a quick set kill. In the second game, Mekelburg served the home team to a 5-0 lead, and Bilby expanded that serving the Eagles to a 13-5 lead. A spike by Parra and a couple by Bilby ended it. Meanwhile, Stanwood beat MG 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17. Stanwood improved to 4-5 while MG dropped to 1-9. Kelsey Kolling had 6 kills and 4 digs, Kate Roberts 6 kills, 4 digs and a block, Kerragyn Heacock 4 kills and 7 digs and Hannah Holscher 15 assists and 7 digs.
In 2A, Lakewood lost 3-0 to Mount Baker.
BOYS TENNIS
M-P had been on a winning streak and Arlington on a losing streak, but that all changed Thursday as the Eagles beat the Tomahawks 5-2 in a Wesco 3A North matchup at Totem Middle School. The Eagles swept the singles competition with Taras McCurdie beating Parker Devereux 6-4, 6-2; Ben Nichols coming from behind to beat Carson Asper 4-6, 6-0, 6-1; Keaton McBride getting by Trae Tingelstad 6-4, 6-4; and Zack Martian defeating Davis Magee 6-2, 6-4. M-P won the first two doubles matches with Aaron Kalab-Treven Southard whipping Cooper McBride-Colby King 6-2, 6-0; and Dawson Coe-Jake Sulya getting past Nate Metcalf-Jayce Jaubert 7-5, 6-0. Eagles Ty Rusko-Aiden Green then blanked Ethan Alberts-Alex Nyblod 8-0.
GIRLS SOCCER
Arlington beat M-P 2-1, and MG beat Stanwood by that same score Thursday in Wesco 3A games. Lakewood blanked Mount Baker 6-0 in a 2A contest.
SWIMMING
Lake Stevens beat both home team M-P and MG Thursday in a Wesco 3A matchup. Kelsey Harris of M-P won the diving with 161.1 points. Tomahawk Katelyn Leary added a victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute 6.56 seconds.
