Marysville

At the recent Senior Night for Marysville Getchell’s girls soccer team, many of the players said their favorite memories were going to state when they were sophomores.

Not so fast – their memories of this year may be better.

The Chargers again qualified for state with a 3-0 shutout over Edmonds-Woodway Tuesday in a 3A Northwest District Tournament semifinal match at Edmonds Stadium.

And they will be trying for the district crown Saturday night at 7 at Shoreline Stadium against Ferndale, which tied Snohomish 0-0 in the other semifinal but won 4-3 on penalty kicks.

Ferndale is 12-5-1 on the year and MG 13-4-1. Freshman Kenzie Thompson-Sheldon got the only goal the Chargers needed in the first half. In the second stanza, she assisted on a goal by Alana Gomez, and her older sister, Jadin, tacked on the final goal.

MG goalie Kassidy Short kept E-W scoreless.

Also, MG beat Shorewood 3-0 Saturday in a first-round district match.

Arlington

At the 3A Northwest District Tournament, the Eagles were eliminated Tuesday, falling to Shorewood 4-1.

Arlington also lost in the first round to Edmonds-Woodway 2-1 Saturday, putting them in the consolation bracket loser-out game.

Arlington placed eighth in Wesco 3A soccer with an 8-6 record, 10-7 overall. E-W was 11-2-1, 13-2-1 overall, and finished second.

The Eagles advanced to that game by beating Oak Harbor 4-1 last Thursday in a play-in game. Arlington led 1-0 at the intermission, but tallied 3 in the second half to win going away. Jersey Heiss scored a hatrick with 3 goals for the winners. Jordan Bartlow added a goal and 2 assists. Carly Bartlow contributed an assist.

Lakewood

At the 2A Northwest District Tournament, the Cougars were eliminated Tuesday night, falling to Burlington-Edison 2-0.

They lost a first-round game to Sehome 6-1 Saturday. Against Sehome, Iliana Ramirez scored the only goal, with an assist from Riley Christensen.

The Cougars won a play-in game last Thursday, edging Blaine in overtime 2-1. Kaley Chang and Kahlan Buckley scored Lakewood’s goals, with Christensen and Jaylene Priebe-Garcia getting the assists.

Carla Sastre stood out at goalie.

The Cougars were sixth in the league standings with a 6-4-3 record, 9-4-4 overall. Sehome tied with Lynden for first at 12-1, 12-2-1 overall.

VOLLEYBALL

In final regular-season games Tuesday, Arlington beat Meadowdale 3-0 to finish the year undefeated and in first place. Stanwood beat M-P 3-1 and Shorecrest blanked MG 3-0.

The 3A District Tournament starts Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Arlington

The Eagles won at home Tuesday 25-14, 25-20 and 28-26.

Marysville

M-P lost to Stanwood 21-25, 25-16, 20-25 and 16-25. Cassidy Phelps had 8 kills, Ayana Sabbas 15 assists and Taylor Bichel 14, Jenna Olson 20 digs and Caylee Carter 5 blocks.

MG lost 10-25, 18-25 and 20-25. Whitney Harwood had 6 kills and 7 digs, and Hannah Holscher had 3 kills, 13 assists, 1 service ace and 7 digs. Kelsey Kolling added 4 kills and 2 blocks.

Lakewood

Ferndale beat the Cougars 3-0 last Thursday in a Northwest League 2A matchup. Lakewood finished 0-13, 0-15 overall, while Ferndale was 9-3, 10-3 overall.

CROSS COUNTRY

Arlington won both team title at the Northwest District 3A Championships at South Whidbey High School Saturday.

Sophomore Aiden Emerson of Arlington won the boys race in 16 minutes, 19.08 seconds and junior Jasmine Nguyen the girls for MG in 18:53.3.

Placing third for the Eagle boys was junior Vincent Loftis, while senior Chance Peterson was fifth. Sophomore Brandon Moore was seventh and junior Quincy Fankhauser eighth. Junior Isaiah Lowery was 10th and senior Ryan Barene 14th, but they didn’t figure in the team scoring.

MG’s top finisher was junior Christian Balgos at 37th. M-P’s was sophomore Carson Serge at 85th. For the first place Arlington girls, seniors Anne Louise Fernandez was eighth, Paige Nelson 10th, Maggie Delaney 14th and Hannah Johnson 21st, with junior Kate Rosson 17th.

For the second-place MG girls, junior Janae Parsons was fifth, senior Julia Rea sixth, junior Lilli Toone 27th and freshman McKenzie Lewis 50th. In the team scores Arlington boys won with 24 points, MG was 10th with 267 and M-P last with 462. for the girls, Arlington had 70, MG with 89 was second and M-P 12th with 304.

In 2A, Lakewood was seventh for the boys and fifth for the girls.

Junior Gabe Hatch was 16th for the boys. Seniors Madison Howe was 11th and Callie Buchanan 12th to lead the Cougar girls.
