The Arlington Eagles play basketball like a race-car driver – they put the pedal to the metal and never let up.
Arlington ended its regular season Monday night with a 70-33 thrashing at Marysville Getchell.
As a result, the Eagles will host MG Friday night at 7 after finishing the Wesco North tied for first with a 13-1 record.
By losing, MG played a 3A Northwest District play-in game Wednesday at Lynnwood, winning 55-40. Lynnwood beat the Chargers just last last month 47-38.
But that was when MG was still looking for someone to step up offensively to help longtime standout Maddy Grandbois.
Freshman guard Ellie Jackson has stepped into that role nicely recently. Against Lynnwood, she connected on eight 3-pointers and led the team with 26 points.
After leading 25-24 at halftime, MG started to pull away in the third with a 12-7 advantage, then blew out the home team 18-9 in the fourth to take a surprisingly easy win.
Grandbois added 13 points for the winners. In Monday’s game, Arlington’s defense kept MG in single digits every quarter, while their offense scored in double figures every period – including a 24-7 advantage in the final stanza.
Arlington ended the game with four players in double figures and two others close: freshman Jenna Villa came off the bench to lead the way with 13; Josie Stupey and Keira Marsh added 11 each; Makenzie Gage had 10; and Hannah Rork and Hailey Hiatt had 8 each.
The Chargers were led by Maddy Grandbois with 12 points and Ellie Jackson with 11.
Also, the Eagles beat Snohomish in a defensive battle Thursday 46-35. Arlington jumped out to an 11-5 first-period lead, but the home team pulled within two at halftime. The Eagles clinched the game pouring in 21 points in the third quarter, while holding Snohomish to 9. Marsh led the winners with 12, and Hiatt had 11 and Gage 8.
M-P closed out its season with a 76-10 loss to Stanwood. Lauren Lewis and Briana Ruiz had 3 each.
The Tommies fell to Everett 56-20 last Thursday. Emily Hamre led M-P with 7.
Also, Lakewood fell to Lynden Christian 61-16.
