MARYSVILLE — The 70-year-old male suspect in a July 8 shooting, of a 63-year-old woman in her own home, has been booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree domestic violence assault.
As of press time, the victim of the shooting, whose home is located in the 4400 block of 128th Place NE in unincorporated Marysville, remains in “serious condition” in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to hospital spokespersons.
According to a police affidavit released July 9, the victim had used a kitchen chair in an attempt to knock the gun out of the hand of the suspect, who was also her boyfriend, before he allegedly fired approximately half a dozen shots. The police report stated that the suspect then drove away in a dark-colored Ford Bronco, leaving the victim bleeding on the floor of her living room, with a single gunshot wound to the shoulder, from a bullet that passed into her chest. The handgun shooting was witnessed by three of the victim’s teenage daughters, and two of her friends who were visiting.
According to Rebecca Hover, public information officer for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the call reporting the shooting was placed at approximately 12:18 p.m., and the suspect was arrested within the same hour as the shooting, on Highway 530, near Oso, by Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputies, who had a description of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect told deputies there was a gun in his vehicle, and detectives believe he changed his clothes after the shooting. Hover added that the suspect was arrested without incident.
According to witnesses, the suspect and the victim had been dating for about two years, but money issues and the suspect’s temper allegedly prompted the victim and her adult son to meet with the suspect June 29, to draft a homemade eviction notice. The police report stated that the victim then restricted the suspect’s access to her home by changing a number of its locks. Detectives wrote that the suspect allegedly posted false information about the victim on Facebook, including claims that she was stealing from him and had a gambling problem. Reportedly, he was also angry that she had unplugged his computer.
The suspect returned to the victim’s house at approximately noon on July 8, and entered the house armed with a revolver. The police report stated that the suspect threatened and argued with the victim before shooting her in her living room, in front of her three daughters and two friends, none of whom were injured.
