MARYSVILLE — Several Marysville Middle School students who allegedly assaulted a fellow student on a school bus on March 1 were the subject of a letter sent home to the school’s parents by its principal on Thursday, March 8.

Marysville Middle School Principal Susan Hegeberg informed parents through the letter that the Marysville School District and the Marysville Police Department are conducting their own investigations of the incident, the latter with the full cooperation of the former.

Marysville School District Superintendent Dr. Larry Nyland confirmed that it involved Marysville Middle School boys allegedly assaulting a girl, and noted that no formal disciplinary action has been taken, other than ordering the boys to stay home, but he could not otherwise reveal details of the ongoing investigation, including the specific nature of the allegations.

According to police, the boys range from 11 to 15 years old. Marysville Police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux reported that the incident was recorded on video from a surveillance camera on the bus, and added that criminal charges are possible, but likewise declined to disclose any further information.

Hegeberg informed parents in the letter that “Immediate actions were taken for the safety of students riding this bus, including having the students involved in this incident removed from the bus and from school.”
