MARYSVILLE — What’s left Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring most impressed about Play It Again Sports’ newly opened branch in Marysville is its hockey equipment.
“My sons are heavily into soccer, baseball and basketball, so I could be purchasing things from here on a regular basis,” laughed Nehring, after he cut the ribbon marking the official grand opening of Play It Again Sports in Marysville on Dec. 16. “But their hockey selection is really cool. With the Everett Silvertips, youth hockey has grown a lot in the area in the past few years and having this store here means that families won’t have to drive all the way down to Lynnwood just to get their gear.”
Marysville Play It Again Sports co-owners Robert and Susan Scott were happy to hear Nehring praise their store as “another retail success story in Marysville.” Their opening drew customers who were anxious to start spending money in their store even before the ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m., and Mike Myers was one of them.
“I can’t think of two finer people to run this store than Rob and Susan,” said Myers, who presented them with their first dollar, already framed, while purchasing a hockey puck. Myers coaches the Scotts’ son in hockey and urged his fellow customers to buy local first.
Play It Again Sports is located at 8628 36th Ave. NE and provides a place for customers to buy and sell used sporting gear and fitness equipment. Susan Scott noted that customers have been anxious to do business with the store since it teased its presence in the community last month.
“We’re very excited to finally be able to open our doors,” Susan Scott said. “Our most in-demand equipment right now is for hockey, skiing and snowboarding. It’s all that snow. Everybody wants to hit the slopes.”
Play It Again Sports will also accept gently used hockey, skiing and snowboarding gear, as well as lacrosse equipment, baseball gloves and bats, pro-line golf clubs, soccer balls, motorized treadmills, ellipticals and bikes, and benches and weights.
“I’m thrilled to open my business in a warm, welcoming community like Marysville,” Robert Scott said. “Parents love this store because they can trade in their quality used equipment, and trade up for new gear for their ever-growing kids, saving them both money and time.”
