MARYSVILLE — Jonathan Richard Cring is not only a published author, a movie screenplay writer and a music composer, he’s also a live entertainer who uses comedy to deliver spiritual messages.

The Marysville United Methodist Church will be hosting Cring and his performing partner, Janet Clazzy, when they stage one of their “Spirited” shows, free to all attendees, April 29 at 7 p.m.

As an entertainer, Cring believes that spirituality and entertainment should be synergistic. He cited the inspiring qualities of many people’s favorite movies, and he sees entertainment such as movies, music and comedy as means of disseminating uplifting spiritual messages.

To that end, Cring seeks to present a less somber take on spirituality than some churchgoers might be expecting, but he doesn’t see a more relaxed presentation as being incompatible with positive spiritual themes.

While Cring provides storytelling and piano-playing, Clazzy, an orchestra conductor who writes musical scores for movies, plays both the oboe and the WX5 wind machine, a lung-powered instrument that can duplicate the distinct sounds of an entire orchestra.
