EVERETT ?Solovei Art Gallery starts the new year with a bang, showing the fabulous impressionist and Russian realism oil paintings of an Arlington artist, Aleksandr (Alex) Kargopoltsev, through Jan. 30.
The phenomena behind Aleksandrs success as a full-time artist can be explained quite simply, said gallery owner Lyussy Hyder.
The appeal of his paintings to the buyers and fans is due to his sincere depiction of what he loves and is interested in.
Kargopoltsev studied art while growing up in Russia and he keeps the tradition, using the classic approach to painting.
True to his roots, and his painting style, Aleks represents Russia in the American art quilt, Hyder said. And he does that very well.
He paints plein-air landscapes and seascapes in an impressionistic realism style. He paints vibrant still lifes, explores cubism and plays with abstract painting.
Along with many landscapes, this exhibit presents a few new studio works inspired by Russian history.
There is a clear sense, that Aleks loves his profession and that he is following his true calling, Hyder said.
