A funny thing has been happening in Arlington youth football the last few years.

Arlington has been battling itself for the championship at the end of the season. No, one team isn’t making mistakes that cost them league titles. Arlington youth football seems to have such depth that two teams continue to meet in the league finals year after year.

“Arlington youth football won the junior division last year. They had both teams in the championship this year. Two years ago, in the midget division, which would be fourth- and fifth-graders, the two Arlington teams played in the championship,” said Arlington white and gold coach Kevin Andal. “This group has played in the last five straight championship games from peewees to midgets to juniors. An Arlington team has been in every championship in every age division for this group since they started playing at the age of 7.”

The streak continued as Andal’s team defeated the Arlington Gold for the junior division championship Nov. 9 in Mount Vernon. The final score was 18-8.

Andal’s team is led on offense by quarterback Drew Earnheart with Caleb Bryson and Paulmer Gregory in the backfield. Bradley Mosalsky and Noah Andal lead the receiving corps.

The White and Gold, which is incorporating the spread offense used at the high school, scored all three of its touchdowns through the air, with a fourth touchdown called back in the championship game. All that offense came after the Gold jumped out to an 8-0 lead.

“We pretty well stopped them cold the rest of the time,” Andal said, praising his defense led by Gregory, Noah Jones and Noah Sorensen.

The White and Gold were favored coming into the game and didn’t disappoint, starting their regular season 7-0, with only a loss in their regular-season ender.
