LYNNWOOD — Wrestling up didn’t seem to hurt Arlington’s performance as they defeated Meadowdale 46-25 in a Dec. 5 double dual meet in the Mavs’ gym.

They improved on that score against Lynnwood, winning their second round 57-18.

Six wrestlers earned points for Arlington in both matches and only one weight class earned no points the whole night — that would be at 103 pounds, where Arlington had no wrestler.

At 112 pounds, Lance Reandeau won both of his matches by forfeit. But in exhibition against Lynnwood’s 103-pounder, he won an exhibition match 9-8. Chris Berg won both of his matches at 135 in competition, taking his first win over Meadowdale by a 2-0 decision. It took Berg only one round to defeat

Lynnwood, pinning his opponent in just over a minute.

At 140 pounds, both of Max Scherf’s wins came by decision, with his 7-5 defeat of Lynnwood coming in overtime. Chris Myers (160) and Seth Henderson (171) took similar routes to their two wins with victories by decision against Meadowdale and by pin against Lynnwood just outside of a minute. With a 2-0 decision in the first match and a win by forfeit in the second, heavyweight Brian Dickerson was the sixth wrestler to earn Arlington points in both meetings.

“Some kids wrestled out of their weights and picked up wins,” said Arlington head coach Shaun Williams. But that’s not to say those guys will move back down anytime soon.

“This is mostly our lineup,” Williams added.

Although Williams said that he wants to work with his wrestlers to think about their matches in terms of the whole meet and how to improve their technique, he sees some easy spots to pick up points. Several matches were lost in the final seconds and he wants wrestlers to think about scoring points in their matches as well as looking for an opportunity to pin their opponent.

“Bright spots are we won in overtime. Everyone tried hard,” Williams said.

Arlington’s first league match comes at Stanwood Dec. 16.
