MARYSVILLE — Those looking for an evening of theatrical entertainment need only “follow the Yellow Brick Road” to Marysville-Pilchuck High School near the end of April and the start of May.

The M-PHS Drama Club will present “The Wizard of Oz” at 7:30 p.m. on April 28, 29 and 30, as well as May 5 and 6, with a special Mother’s Day matinee at 1:30 p.m. on May 8. All performances will take place in the M-PHS auditorium and ticket prices will be $8 for adults and students without ASB, $7 for students with ASB and seniors, and $5 for children five years old and younger.

The musical stars M-PHS students Melissa McCann as Dorothy, David Henry as the Scarecrow, Mikko Juan as the Tin Man and Cherish Broker as the Cowardly Lion. More than 50 students from schools around the district are also participating in the show, including more than 20 elementary students playing the Munchkins. Several more students from the Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell high schools are members of the award-winning orchestra pit. The musical is based on the classic 1939 MGM movie and contains all of the same songs, plus some that were cut from the original movie.

The musical is being directed by M-PHS teacher Roy Klementsen, musically conducted by M-PHS teacher Brian Kesler, vocally coached by M-PHS alum Karen Hundley and choreographed by M-PHS alum Shaylene Meyers.
