SPOKANE – Tulalip Heritage found out why Sunnyside Christian is undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the state March 3.

Sunnyside broke open a close game at halftime, easily beating the Hawks in the first round at state 65-31.

Sunnyside led just 30-21 at halftime, but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing 25 Hawk turnovers compared with just 11 for the winners.

The home team also was helped at the foul line, making 20 of 37 compared with just 5-for-13 for Tulalip.

Tulalip’s top two scorers, Adiya Jones and Keryn Parks, both had five fouls.

Jones ended the game with 15 points and six rebounds. Parks added nine points and five boards, with three 3-pointers.

Michelle Lukes scored one 3-pointer, and Aliya Jones scored four points, and led the team with eight boards.

Katelyn Banks led the winners with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Tulalip will move on to play a loser-out game Friday. If they win, they will play again Saturday at Spokane Arena.
