Several young swimmers had notable performances as the Mighty Marlins Swim Club sent a dozen competitors to the Seattle Open.

At the meet July 10-12, the last chance for swimmers 15 and older to qualify for the Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships coming up at the end of the month, two Marlins swimmers won the High Point Award for their age class, an award given to a swimmer in each category who scores the highest point total for their team.

Ten-year-old Christina Domanowski won all six of her events, taking the award for the 10-and-under class. She had winning times in the 200 individual medley, the 50 butterfly, the 100 butterfly and the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyles.

“She won all six of her events this weekend. She won them handily. It’s a big deal, but it’s not uncommon for them either,” said Marlins coach Kirby Schaufler. Thirteen-year-old Morgan Ginnis also won the High Point Award for the 13- to 14-year-old category, just edging out teammate Hannah Taylor for the honor by one point.

Both girls racked up four first-place finishes.

“Between the two of them, they won almost every 13- and 14-year-old event that was offered,” the coach added.

Ginnis swam in nine events, winning the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle. Taylor won the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM.

In addition, Sarp Orgul, 11, qualified for the PNS championships in two more events, bringing the total in which he’ll compete to eight.

Eight-year-old Bindi Pedersen swam six events, winning the 50 breaststroke in the 8-and-under competition.

The Marlins host a dual meet July 17 at Marysville-Pilchuck with PNS championships beginning July 23 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
